Egyptian Funerary Cone for Chief Priest Sobekmose - Ramesside Period, 1293-1126 BC The top section of a conical terracotta funerary cone with three lines of hieroglyphic inscription reading 'Honoured by Osiris, chief wab priest, Sobekmose, true of voice'. 355 grams, 74mm (3”). Fine condition. Provenance From a Swedish private collection; formerly in the Malte Nilsson collection, acquired 1950s-1960s in Egypt; from Theban Tomb 275, West Bank at Luxor. Footnotes Funerary cones were placed in rows over the entrance of a tomb chapel, creating a decorative frieze. They were inserted into the wall, so that only the short end was visible.
