Roman Bacchus Mosaic Panel - 3rd-4th century AD A substantial mosaic panel depicting Bacchus (Greek Dionysus) god of agriculture, wine and fertility, with long braided hair and fruit in the field, 'ΒΗΘΝ[Γ]...' legend below; mounted in a custom-made matrix and frame. 11.7 kg, 79 x 79cm including frame (31 x 31”). Very fine condition. An impressive display piece. Provenance From a private collection, the property of a Canadian gentleman living in London; from his father's collection formed in the late 1960s to 1980s. Footnotes Dionysus was said to be the last god to join the twelve Olympians, Hestia gave up her seat for him.
