An Italian Cast Brass Desk Set Including Scissor and Matching Cylindrical Holder - This decorative two-piece desk set is comprised of a pair of scissors and a matching cylindrical holder, both crafted from cast brass. Measures 3 inches tall by 3 inches wide. The holder features elaborate repousse-style relief decoration throughout its exterior, depicting scrolling foliate and floral motifs interspersed with rectangular reserves. A tubular brass sleeve is mounted to the side of the cup to receive the scissor blades. The matching scissors feature ornate openwork cast brass handles with scrollwork detailing and finger loops. The scissor blades are constructed of steel and joined by a central pivot screw. The steel blade is stamped with the characters ITALY near the pivot point. The interior of the cup shows a dark, mottled appearance from use and aging. The underside of the base shows irregular dark residue but no legible maker marks or hallmarks are present.
