המדע בשרות התעשייה, מטבע יום העצמאות תשל"א, כ"ג למדינה, 1971
תעשיות עתירות מדע (תע"מ) הן התעשיות שבהן משקעות תוצאות המחקר החדשני והמתקדם ביותר, כדי שמוצריהן יצליחו לחדור לשווקים התובעים מוצרים מתוחכמים. קריות תע"מ הוקמו בירושלים, בחיפה, ברחובות, ובמרכז למחקר גרעיני בנחל שורק. המפעלים המרכזיים בקריות תע"מ נהנים מהידע המתקדם המושג במעבדות של האוניברסיטאות והטכניון ובמכוני המחקר הישראליים. משרד הביטחון וצה"ל מקיימים מעבדות לפיתוח תע"מ לצרכי ביטחון.
פני המטבע:
במרכז, ציור סכמטי מסוגנן של הבניין המרכזי של הכור הגרעיני בנחל שורק. מעל זה, הערך הנקוב של המטבע – "10 לירות ישראליות", ומתחת לדגם השנה "תשל"א 1971", על השפה התחתונה "ישראל" בעברית, בערבית ובאותיות לטיניות.
גב המטבע:
על השפה, למעלה מימין, הנושא "המדע בשרות התעשייה". על פני שדה המטבע דגם גלגל משונן המסובב פרודה (על-ידי קביעת הגלגל מחוץ למרכז הושגה תחושה של תנופה).
היקף: "שנת כ"ג למדינת ישראל" בכיוון פני או גב המטבע.
סימן טביעה:
על פני המטבע הרגיל (י-ם) מגן דוד, משמאל לבניין.
על פני המטבע הקשוט האות "מ", מימין לבניין.
