Scott, Sir Walter. Waverley Novels. Fields, Osgood, & Co., 1869. A Set of Volumes. Illustrated Library Edition. - A set of volumes from the Waverley Novels series by Sir Walter Scott. This Illustrated Library Edition was published in Boston by Fields, Osgood, & Co., successors to Ticknor and Fields, in 1869. The volumes are bound in three-quarter brown leather with marbled paper-covered boards and matching marbled endpapers. The spines feature decorative gilt floral and scroll tooling in compartments separated by gilt rules. Each spine contains two leather labels: a maroon upper label lettered WAVERLEY NOVELS and a dark blue or black lower label identifying the specific work. Titles visible in this set include Bride of Lammermoor, Monastery, Fair Maid of Perth, Fortunes of Nigel, Heart of Mid-Lothian, St. Ronan's Well, The Abbot, and The Antiquary. The title page of The Antiquary specifies the work as Two Volumes in One. A notable binding error is present on the spine for The Abbot, where the title label is oriented upside down.
