Antique Clear Glass Apothecary Shop Round Jar with POT.BITART. Recessed Glass Label - An antique clear glass apothecary storage jar, commonly referred to as a shop round, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The vessel is constructed of clear glass with a square-sectioned body and rounded shoulders. It includes a matching clear glass stopper that is hollow-blown with a flat, circular finial and a ground glass plug. The neck of the jar is also ground to provide an airtight seal. The front of the jar features a recessed glass label, also known as a vitrified label. This rectangular label is decorated with gold and red pinstripe borders and stylized ray motifs in the corners. The center of the label bears the printed text POT.BITART. in bold, black, italicized sans-serif capital letters. This is a pharmaceutical abbreviation for Potassii Bitartras, or Potassium Bitartrate, commonly known as Cream of Tartar.
