Jean Elise reclu (1830-1905) was a great French geographer, historian and sociologist, and a member of the Geographical society of Paris. He visited almost all countries of the world, from Europe to remote corners of America, Africa and Asia. He began his travels as a child. at the age of 12, he walked from the South of France across the country to Germany to the Moravian brothers ' school to get an education. Then there were England, the United States, and other corners of the world, where the future world-famous scientist went without any means, and everywhere found ways to survive, to succeed, and to get food for the mind and observation. An irresistible desire for new knowledge and impressions did not allow him to stay in one place for long. The future great scientist learned the geography of the earth and the history of mankind practically, first traveling a lot, and then for many years composing geographical guides for the famous French publishing house "ashet". The researcher wrote his largest work "Earth and people", published in 19 volumes, for 20 years. In it, he gave a detailed description of the world's geography, countries and peoples.
Another book - "Man and Earth" - became the final work of the scientist's life, the first volume of which was published in 1905 shortly before the author's death. In it, the accents changed dramatically, and the history of mankind came out on top. While working on this world-famous book, E. reclu described what he saw, which is why his story is so lively and interesting, it is rich in colors and reliable, which distinguishes it from studies written by armchair scientists. Particularly bright and finely made by the author's psychological portraits of people. The author associated the formation of national psychology traits with the living conditions of ethnic groups throughout their history. In his work, the scientist gives a General picture of the development of mankind and a description of almost all countries of the world. It contains a wealth of material on their history, geography, economy, culture and Ethnography. The life and history of mankind are considered in the context of the living conditions of individual peoples, the features of geography and climate. While among the aboriginal tribes, E. reklyu studied their life and culture by methods of included observation, which will become so popular among ethnographers of the twentieth century. SP
