Lemire French Patinated Bronze Figural Bookend - Item/Description: Antique bronze figurine, after a model by French sculptor Charles-Gabriel Sauvage, known as Lemire (French, 1741-1827). Sculpture features a young child or cherub with curled hair adorned with grapes, seated upon a closed book volume. Lemire spent over twenty years directing the modeling workshops at the Niderviller porcelain factory before exhibiting widely in Paris, gaining renown for his classical and sentimental depictions of children. Material: Bronze, Marble Dimensions: Length: 3 1/8”; Width: 2 3/8”; Height: 3 5/8” Condition: Signs of age, use, and wear include rubbing to the bronze patina, small fleabites and chips along the edges and corners of the marble base, surface wear.
