German Folk Art Hand-Painted Stoneware Bottle - Item/Description: 19th-century German salt-glazed stoneware mineral water bottle or seltzer flask that has been decorated with folk art landscape oil painting. Vessel features a short ribbed neck and displays a hand-rendered pastoral scene depicting a white-tailed deer standing in a clearing before a country church and overhanging trees. Originally exported throughout Europe and the United States containing mineral waters, these durable stoneware bottles were frequently repurposed by regional folk artists as decorative canvas bases during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
