Samson Paris 'Chelsea' Exotic Bird Porcelain Plate - Item/Description: 19th-century French porcelain plate by Edme Samson, decorated in the 18th-century Chelsea style with vibrant exotic birds, a central floral bouquet, and Sevres-inspired apple green panels. Reverse bears a replicated overglaze red anchor mark. The Chelsea Porcelain Manufactory originally created and used the red anchor as their official factory trademark during the peak of their production from 1752 to 1756. The famous French firm Samson, Edme et Cie specialized in copying rare museum-grade porcelain. They reproduced Chelsea ”exotic bird” motifs and intentionally applied a copied red anchor mark to the back. Samson pieces are made of hard-paste porcelain (which is stark white, heavily vitrified, cold to the touch, and rings like a bell when tapped) rather than the heavy, warm, soft-paste body of genuine 1750s Chelsea ware.
