Ritscher - Steel Engraving ”Foster Child” - Item/Description: Antique steel engraving titled ”The Visit of the Foster Child” (The Visit to the Nurse) after the painting by Gottlob Moritz Ritscher (1827-1875), a noted German genre painter associated with the Dresden school. Image depicts an interior scene with women and children. Signed in plate lower right: Moritz Ritscher 1874 / Dresden. Also reads in part: Ritscher PINX. Engraver: Ernst Fürchtegott Mohn (1835-1912), a highly regarded German engraver. Set in an ornate 19th-century Victorian composite frame with a distressed giltwood and gesso. Material: Steel Engraving on Paper, Wood, Gilt Composition Dimensions: Image size: Height: 8 1/4”; Width: 9 7/8”.
