Burr - 19th C Steel Engraving ”Playmates” - Item/Description: 19th-century antique steel engraving titled ”Playmates” depicting a mid-Victorian domestic scene set inside a rustic cottage kitchen. Created after the painting by the Scottish genre and historical painter Alexander Hohenlohe Burr (1835-1899). Plate text reads in part: A. H. BURR, PINXT (meaning: painted by A.H. Burr. Engraved by the prominent English line engraver Lumb Stocks (1812-1892). Set in a Victorian gilt gesso wood compo frame. Material: Steel Engraving on Paper, Wood, Gilt Composition Dimensions: Image size: Height: 8 1/4”; Width: 10 1/2”. Framed: Height: 12 5/8”; Width: 14 1/2” Condition: Signs of age and wear include surface scratches and scuffing to frame. Discoloration. Art not examined out of frame.
