Large scale textile tapestry is made by an innovative process where felted wool fiber and pieces of vibrant textile are layered and needle-tufted together on a fabric backing to create a dense, highly textured abstract collage. Signed lower left and further hand titled and signed to the back. Calman Shemi (1939-2025) was a highly versatile Argentinian-born Israeli sculptor and painter, best known globally as the pioneer of the ”soft painting” medium. He described himself as a ”composer of color, shape, and energy, ” creating a body of work defined by vibrant optimism, texture, and abstract interpretations of the natural world.
