Edwin Henry Boddington - Victorian Landscapes - Item/Description: Pair of original 19th century oil paintings, ”Morning. Lyn Gwynant North Wales” and ”Evening. Lyn Gwynant North Wales”, by British artist Edwin Henry Boddington. Signed lower left: EHB. Featuring serene scenes of a picturesque glacial lake located in Snowdonia, North Wales. Set in matching classic, ornate gilt gesso frames with inner slips. The artist's name, location, and title are painted onto the lower border of the inner frame piece, a common practice during the Victorian era to officially mark exhibited works. Boddington (English, 1836-1905) was a member of the famous Williams family of painters and learned his craft from his father, Henry John Boddington. He developed a highly recognizable style, typically capturing waterways under a calm, dimming evening or sunset light using deep greens, soft ochres, and dark browns.
