1940s Arabia Friedl Holzer Rice Porcelain Bowls - Item/Description: Pair of vintage mid-century modern ”rice porcelain” (Riisiposliini) bowls by the renowned design house Arabia Finland. Designed by Austrian-Finnish ceramic artist Friedl Holzer-Kjellberg (F.H.K.). Bases with hand-incised mark (ARABIA - F.H.Ki - FINLAND) The technique involves creating delicate, translucent rice grain patterns by cutting small holes into the porcelain and filling them with glaze. Pale blue-white coloring and scalloped, textured pattern. Produced in Finland between the 1942 and 1974. Bowls marked with an early hand-incised mark from the 1940s to 1950s. (Art Department Production Period) Friedl Holzer-Kjellberg was an influential Austrian-born ceramic artist who became a pivotal figure in Scandinavian design during her long residence in Finland. During her remarkable 46-year career at the Arabia factory, she served as the head of the art department and spent a decade perfecting the delicate, translucent Rice Porcelain line that became one of the company's most globally recognized, iconic collections.
