Janusz Obst - Monumental Wood Relief Sculpture - Item/Description: Exceptional hand-carved architectural high-relief wooden sculpture from Polish-American, Brooklyn artist, Janusz Obst (b. 1946). Stands approximately seven feet in height. Neo-Baroque style tour de force piece showcasing a spirited, allegorical scene of mythological figures. Showcasing technical virtuosity and dynamic movement, the piece features a swooning central male figure surrounded by fluttering cherubs (putti) and nymphs entwined in dense, sinuous foliage and swags of roses. Every element, from the weeping figure at the base to the extravagant, fluttering drapery, radiates emotional intensity and dramatic expression. A masterpiece of fluid form and intricate ornamentation. Large-scale work of significant density. Engraved artist signature on column to the left. Piece purchased directly from artist studio/gallery. Janusz Obst (Polish-American, b.1946) was born in Zamosc, Poland and later emigrated to the United States in 1991. His studio is in Brooklyn, New York.
