Flagg - Item/Description: Original, iconic World War I recruitment poster ”Tell That to the Marines!”, created by James Montgomery Flagg (American, 1877-1960), an artist, comic artist, and illustrator from New York. He famously created the 1917 poster of Uncle Sam for the United States Army recruitment during World War I. Signed in plate lower left. The poster depicts an ordinary American civilian who has just dropped his hat and aggressively pulls off his suit jacket, ready to enlist and join the fight.
