Created by American illustrator Adolph Treidler (1886-1981), known for his illustrations, posters, commercial art, and wartime propaganda posters. His magazine covers and advertisement work appeared in several publications including Harper's, the Saturday Evening Post, and Collier's. Signed in plate lower left. Image features a smiling U.S. Marine sergeant in a trench helmet carving a notch into the wooden stock of his rifle.
