(and with dimensions) Viktor Shapovalov (Chapovalov) studied industrial design and fine art at the College of Art and Design in St. Petersburg from 1976 to 1981. In the mid-1980s, he joined independent, non-conformist artist groups to create experimental art free from rigid Soviet government guidelines. This particular 1988 piece represents his foray into surrealism and expressive conceptual painting just before he emigrated to Sweden in 1991.
