Signature and date impressed in the back near the base: Bergier 67. Inscribed Leonardo Artwks Inc. The company Leonardo Artwks Inc. produced this bust of Bergier's sculpture. Bergier was a prominent New York sculptor and caricaturist who began his career as a singer in the Metropolitan Opera. He studied art in Paris in the late 1930s before serving in the Navy during World War II. He was a founding member of the ”Save the Village” Greenwich Village historic preservation campaign. He frequently completed sculpture commissions for synagogues, churches, and public figures such as Albert Einstein, whose bust he sculpted in 1950.
