David Roberts Nablus Hand Colored Lithograph - Item/Description: Nablus Shechem (Ancient Shechem), hand-colored and embellished lithograph. View of the ancient city of Shechem (also known as Nablus). Marked on frame: Robsinov / Mar 19 1975 or 1973 David Roberts (1796-1864) who was born in Scotland in 1796, moved to London and, by 1838, was already considered a reputable artist. His decision to travel to Egypt and the Holy Land to paint the monuments, architecture and people would be a turning point for his career. Roberts was admitted to the Royal Academy and continued to travel and paint until his death in 1864. After more than 150 years his paintings are still the most beloved and popular illustrations of the Middle East and are highly sought after by collectors. Material: Hand colored lithograph on paper.
