Boris Schatz ”The Repentant” Baal Teshuva Plaque - Item/Description: Boris Schatz (1866-1932) Silver Relief Framed Judaica Wall Plaque. Masterfully carved depiction of a man in deep spiritual contemplation. Titled in Hebrew, ”Baal Teshuva” (master of repentance; one who has returned to God). No visible signature or hallmark. Mounted and matted and burlap cloth. Carved gilt wood frame. Handwritten on back, ”Schatz Meditation.”Schatz was a Lithuanian born Jewish artist and sculptor. He settled in Israel, founded the Bezalel School of Art in Jerusalem and became known as the ”Father of Israeli Art.” Material: Sterling Silver, Wood, Glass Burlap. Dimensions: Frame 11 1/2”L x 9 1/2”W. Plaque 3”L x 1 3/4”W. Condition: Plaque in excellent condition. Chipping to top left edge of wood frame. Hanging wire and hardware intact. Age: Circa 1960s.
