Clement Hurd (1908 - 1988) Woodblock Print - Item/Description: Framed woodcut by Clement Hurd (New York / California, 1908-1988). Signed with artist's seal, lower right, Clement Hurd (1908 - 1988). Illustrator. Born in NYC on Jan. 12, 1908. Hurd grew up in NYC and graduated from Yale University. After college he studied with Fernand Leger in Paris for two years. The 1930s were spent as a freelance artist in NYC. In 1939 Hurd married Edith Thacher, a children's book author. In 1947 he illustrated ”Goodnight Moon” by Margaret Wise Brown. The book has since sold more than two million copies. Hurd illustrated dozens of children's books before his demise in San Francisco on Feb. 5, 1988. Material: Print framed under glass / plexi.
