19th C.”The Cuckolds off Boothbay” Seascape O/C - Item/Description: Moody, beautifully painted oil on canvas oceanscape of Boothbay Harbor off the coast of Maine. Seguin Island and lighthouse in the distance. Masterful details of roiling, white caps under a pastel-hued sky. Ornate, decorative period gold gilt wood frame. Signed on lower right corner: artist monogram, illegible, and date, '82. En verso a handwritten note in cursive script reads in part: ” The Cuckolds off Boothbay, Me. / Seguin Island in Distance / Smoky Sou. Westen.” The Seguin Island Light Station was commissioned by George Washington in 1795. Still fully functional, it is Maine’s tallest and second oldest light station.
