Josef Rolf Knobloch (1891-1964) Winter O/B - Item/Description: Thick impasto in black and white of a Winterscape. Snow on ground, partially frozen pond, and a large house barn in the background. Wonderful use of light and shadows. Signed, dated in part lower right: J. Rolf Knobloch '12. En verso handwritten notes on paper backing read: ”Winter/ illegible name/ Signed lower right on front when painting as wet (Josef) Rolf Knoblock.” Remnants of old label. Gilt painted wood frame. No hanging hardware. Josef Rolf Knobloch was born in 1891 in Böhmisch Kamnitz, a region of the Czech Republic. He was a student at the Liebwerda Art School and the Technical University of Munich. Largely self -taught, he was influenced by Impressionism and exhibited widely in Germany during his lifetime and was a member of many art societies. Material: Oil on Board.
