Luigi Lucioni (1900-1988) The Spreading Maple - Item/Description: This circa 1947, original, penci-signed etching is by Italian/American artist, Luigi Lucioni (1900-1988). Titled, ”The Spreading Maple, ” it depicts the stately tree in the foreground with a grove of trees as a backdrop. The setting is Vermont, a favorite of Luccioni who was a master etcher, known for his landscapes, portraits and still-lifes. Dedication in pencil reads in part: ”To Willie & Virginia...Very Sincerely Luigi, Feb 1949.” Signed by artist lower right: Luigi Lucioni 1947. Luigi Lucioni was born in Italy in 1900 and became one of America's well-known landscape painters. His works were notable for their realism and masterful attention to detail. He studied at the National Academy of Design and was the recipient of a Tiffany Foundation Scholarship. He taught art at the Art Student's League in New York and maintained a studio in the Washington Square area. Material: Paper, wood, glass. Dimensions: Image size: Height: 12”; Width: 19”.
