Gekko Ogata Japanese Woodblock - Item/Description: Woodblock ”Nun in Moonlight”, from the series An Assortment of Women's Customs, 1891. Artist's signature and red seal stamp. Ogata Gekko (Japan, 1859-1920) best known as a painter and designer of ukiyo-e woodblock prints. He was never classically trained in a school or held an artistic apprenticeship, so as a self-taught artist he developed his own style and did not abide to any rules. Due to his innovative style he won numerous awards nationally and internationally. Material: Color woodblock print on paper, framed under glass. Dimensions: Image size: Height: 13”; Width: 9”.
