William Spratling Taxco Sterling Dragonfly Brooch - Item/Description: Rare, Mid-Century William Spratling (1900-1967) Mexico dragonfly brooch pin. Fashioned from Sterling Silver and faux tortoise shell. Hallmarks partially worn: Eagle 1 mark and WS script mark, used from 1951 - 1956. Simple pin closure. William Philip Spratling was an American born architect and jewelry designer, best known for his influence on Mexican silver design. Inspired by designs from the Pre-Columbian-era, Spratling worked with local Taxco jewelry makers to create his jewelry designs. He is known as “ El Padre de la Plata de México ” or the ”Father of Mexican silver” Material: Sterling Silver, Faux Tortoise Celluloid Dimensions: Length: 2”; Width: 2 1/2”; approximately 6.7 grams Condition: Good.
