Antique Silver Lava Stone Cameo Brooch in Box - Item/Description: Unique Estate cameo brooch from Italy. Hand carved lava relief of a beauty in profile. Ornate open-backed Sterling frame with gilded rope embellishment. Old hinged pin with C-clasp closure. Unmarked. Handwritten note found in box under the cameo, and included, reads in part: ” Beads and medals blessed by the Holy Father. ” The lidded presentation box is decorated with a silver medallion of the Virgin and Child. Inscription reads: ” Regina Sacratissimi Rosarii Ora Pro Nobisi. ” The underside bears the stamp of the Italian store in Milan: Lorioli Fratelli. According to the research, Lorioli Fratelli were makers of badges, medals and religious jewelry. Material: Lava, Sterling Silver (tested). Dimensions: Length: 2”; Width: 1 3/4”; approximately 22 grams Condition: Good. Surface use and age wear includes chipping/loss to nose and abrasions to cheek. Cameo secure in setting. Pin closure in good working order. Wear to box includes staining on inside, fraying/tear to one corner, otherwise box in good condition.
