German Watercolor- Das Verspeilte Weib, 1836 - Item/Description: Antique signed 19th Century German watercolor on paper. Entitled, ”Das Verseilte Weib” (The Playful Woman). Depicts a dramatic scene. Well dressed people in period clothing with anguished expressions. It appears the seated man has lost his lady love in card game to the man who is leading her away. Soft pastel hues, fine details. Artist signed and dated lower left: J.D. 1836. At top of board, handwritten measurements in pencil and two illegible phrases in German. En verso faded handwritten German in pencil reads in part: ”... Wilde Weib” (Wild woman). Handwriting on top of board reads: ”Die Verseilte Frau” (The Twisted Woman). En verso triangular stamp.
