Two Handwoven Curl Weave Basket - Item/Description: Two round ash baskets. Curl weave. handwoven nesting baskets with lids. Weaving technique combines flat and raised ribbon like patterns, giving the baskets a three dimensional appearance. The larger basket has a flat lid that simply rests atop its opening. Arched loops form a trim around mouth. Unsigned. The smaller basket has a lid that fits snugly over the base. Also unsigned. Material: Woven natural fibers Dimensions Big: Height: 4 1/2”; Width: 8 1/2”; Depth: 4” Dimensions Small: Height: 3”; Width: 5 1/2”; Depth: 2 1/2” Condition: Good to Very Good. Signs of use, age and surface wear to larger basket including fading, areas of loss to trim, significant drying out to palm. The small basket is more supple and soft. The palm is richer in color. Signs of use, age and surface wear including slight staining to interior bottom, discoloration, fading to lid, scratches. Age: 1950s Provenance: JoAnn Young Collection.
