Tingatinga School Painting Pair - Item/Description: Two small, original, colorful Tingatinga School paintings on board. One depicting a bird / rooster and the other a zebra with an exotic bird. Unknown artists, no noticeable signatures. (Tanzania, Kenya, African Animals, African folk art) Tingatinga (Tinga-tinga or Tinga Tinga) is a painting style that originated in East Africa. The genre is named after its founder, Tanzanian painter Edward Tingatinga. Tinga Tinga also inspired kids animation tales, namely Tinga Tinga Tales. Before his tragic murder in 1972, Tingatinga established a new art form using basic supplies available to him as a house painter -- enamel paints and masonite scraps, to expand on traditional Congo painting styles.
