Antique Framed Miniature Portrait Lot - Item/Description: Gleaned from the same private estate four piece antique miniature frames include two oval hanging miniature portraits and one empty framed case. Decorative accessories. Keepsakes. The portrait of the woman in period clothing dates from the eighteenth century. Masterfully painted on ox-bone it depicts a beauty in period clothing with a quiet smile and rosy cheeks. Soft pastel hues, fine detail. Artist signed on lower left Robertson 1787. It is framed under glass in an oval gilt wash metal tin frame with leather backing, held in place with fold down metal prongs, old adhesive sticker. Hanging loop. Material: tin, ox bone, paint, leather Dimensions: Length: 4 1/8”; Width: 3 1/4” Condition: Very Good. Free of chips or cracks. Colors vibrant, paint intact. It appears portrait has shifted in frame to expose edge of work, leaving a space as pictured. Signs of age, use and wear including scuffing to leather backing, area of loss. Age: 1787 Provenance: Private Estate The hand-painted portrait of a young society gentleman in late eighteenth early nineteenth century period clothing. He too has a soft smile and steady gaze. Hand-painted on ox-bone. Fine details. Unsigned. The work is set into a locket type gilt wash / plated frame. There is a decorative edge to the frame, hanging hardware and a window in the back covered in glass, for a memento such as a lock of hair. Gilt wash metal with elaborate engine turned design on back and floral embossed rim. Inside compartment contains a purple floral embossed lining paper. Small ”window” compartment for memento. Baroness Friederike Viktoria Mariana Ottilie von Gumppenberg (1823 - 1916) was a lady-in-waiting for Crown Princess Marie Friederike of Prussia.
