Jean Calogero "The Aquarium" Oil Painting
Item/Description: Original oil painting features a child with a fish tank, mask & doll. Signed lower left, Calogero. Titled The Aquarium on label adhered to stretcher bar. Carved wood and gesso frame. Purchased at Christie's December 1987.
Jean Calogero (Italian, 1922 - 2001) is best known for dreamlike and visionary Surrealist works. Masks with their dual dimensions is a common theme in his paintings.
