Renoir-Matisse Red Enamel Copper Demi Parure
Item/Description: Magnificent Renoir- Matisse red enamel on copper bib necklace and matching clip earrings. The company, originally called Renoir of California, was founded by artist and jewelry designer, Jerry Fels. His medium was copper, a popular metal between 1930 and 1950. Arts & Crafts was a strong influence in his pieces. Rare and unusual in design and craftsmanship. The choker consists of lipstick red plaque-like fringes, resembling folded triangles, coated on both sides in red enamel. The coloring of the enamel grows darker toward the bottom, creating depth and contrast. Linked together by rectangular copper links. Egyptian Revival motif. Fold-over clasp. Unsigned. The matching earrings are accented by half moons of copper rectangles with concave oxidized centers. Hinged silver tone clip backs. Hallmarked: Matisse in script.
