Large Hand Painted Majolica Earthenware Urn with Mascaron and Fruit Decoration - A large earthenware urn featuring a bulbous ovoid body, twin handles, and a flared rim. The vessel is finished with an all-over crackle glaze and extensive hand-painted decoration. The central motif is a high-relief molded mascaron, or whimsical face, with hand-painted facial features and an open mouth. This central element is integrated into a dense composition of fruit and foliage, including clusters of blue grapes, yellow oranges with red stippling, and green leaves with dark veining. The shoulder is accented by two stylized, ribbed handles shaped like ram's horns. Banded geometric patterns decorate the vessel, including a dark striped rim, a stylized petal or piano-key motif at the neck, and a floral tile-style band near the base.
