The exterior of the chest is fully clad in red-stained tooled leather, featuring a three-dimensional geometric trompe l'oeil cube pattern across the top, front, and sides. The edges are finished with a dark leather border decorated with a repeating gilt-stamped quatrefoil motif. The chest is equipped with an ornate cast-metal escutcheon on the front and heavy cast-metal bail handles on the sides, each with decorative backplates. The hinged lid opens to a single, open interior compartment finished with a dark wood stain and supported by a metal stay bar. The separate stand features a scalloped apron and four turned legs. Each leg terminates in a metal caster, with the front two legs featuring decorative claw-style ferrules.
