Continental School Interior Scene Oil Style Painting on Board in Ornate Gilt Frame - An Impressionist style interior scene executed in oil on board, depicting two women in late 19th or early 20th-century dress. The composition features one woman seated at a dark-wood table draped with a cloth, positioned before an open balcony or large window that reveals a sunlit garden with mature trees and soft greenery. A second woman stands to the right, partially obscured by shadow. The work utilizes a palette of warm ochres, greens, and whites, with visible impasto and dappled light effects. No signature is visible on the face of the painting. The piece is housed in a substantial, deep-profile gilt wood and gesso frame featuring an overall pattern of scrolling acanthus leaves and flowers in high relief against a textured, stippled ground. The verso is sealed with a brown paper backing. The backing bears a faint purple ink stamp that reads: FRAMED PICTURE ENTERPRISE, BAT[...] HWY. 6 WEST, and includes the digits 05. Additionally, handwritten inscriptions in black ink read P1247 and 1599D. A serrated metal hanging bracket is attached to the upper center of the frame's reverse.Height: 13 inchesWidth: 11 inches.
