Large Sgraffito Decorated Earthenware Baluster Form Temple Jar and Lid - A large ceramic temple jar of baluster form featuring a high-shouldered silhouette, waisted neck, and a flared base. The jar is accompanied by a domed lid finished with a pointed, metallic-toned finial. The vessel is constructed of earthenware with a deep chocolate brown glossy glaze. The exterior is elaborately decorated with sgraffito-style ornamentation in a pale ochre tone, featuring dense rinceau scrolling vines and foliate motifs. Integrated into the scrollwork are various whimsical figures, including monkeys or satyr-like creatures climbing through the vegetation. Near the base, the decoration includes humanoid figures, one of which is depicted seated beside a dog. The foot is encircled by a stylized band of vertical leaf or petal motifs. The interior of the jar is finished with a blue-green glaze. No maker marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the exterior or base of the object.
