Anthropomorphic Taxidermy Opossum Posed as a Fisherman - A piece of anthropomorphic taxidermy featuring a North American opossum (Didelphis virginiana). The specimen is mounted in an upright, seated position on an unfinished wooden shelf. The opossum is outfitted with a miniature woven straw hat and holds a small decorative fishing rod. The rod is constructed from a tapered wooden dowel with thread-bound guides and a small dark-colored faux reel. The opossum displays natural taxidermy characteristics, including white and grey fur on the body, dark fur on the limbs, and a hairless, light-colored tail that curves around the wooden mount. The mount consists of two pieces of rough-cut wood joined at a right angle, intended for wall display. No maker marks, signatures, or labels are present on the specimen or the mounting hardware.
