US Model 1861 Percussion Rifle Musket and Socket Bayonet dated 1864 - A percussion cap musket from the American Civil War era, complete with its corresponding socket bayonet. The firearm features a dark wooden stock and a long metal barrel secured by three flat barrel bands. The metal lock plate is stamped on the forward section with a spread-wing eagle emblem above the characters U.S. and the name TRENTON. On the rear portion of the lock plate, the year 1864 is stamped. The barrel breech is marked with an impressed N.J. on the left flat and bears several small proof marks including a V, a P, and an eagle head. On the left side of the stock, opposite the lock, is an impressed oval cartouche containing the script initials J.S.T. The accompanying socket bayonet features a triangular fluted blade. The metal components show a naturally aged, darkened patina throughout. The total length of the rifle with the bayonet attached is approximately 73 inches.
