Vintage Forged Iron Blacksmith Leg Vise Mounted on Steel Stand - A vintage blacksmith leg vise, also known as a post vise, constructed of forged iron and finished in black paint. The vise features traditional jaw geometry with a pivot point at the base of the leg, designed to transfer impact forces during heavy hammering directly to the ground. It is operated by a threaded screw mechanism with a sliding T-handle capped by spherical finials. A flat-leaf spring is positioned between the inner jaw faces to facilitate opening. The vise is mounted to a custom-fabricated steel stand consisting of a square-section pillar welded to a rectangular base plate with four pre-drilled mounting holes. The top of the stand features a horizontal plate secured to the vise bracket with bolts. The entire assembly is covered in a heavy black finish. No maker marks, stamps, or labels are visible through the thick layer of paint; a bolt head is visible on the pivot housing (photo 6), but no legible characters are present. The T-handle measures approximately 19 inches in length (photo 9). The mounting base plate measures approximately 14 inches in length (photo 10). The total height to the top of the jaws is approximately 41 inches (photo 11).
