Norman Rockwell Museum Special Edition Playing Pirates Bisque Porcelain Figurine No. 1691 of 2500 - A hand-painted bisque porcelain figurine titled Playing Pirates, produced by The Norman Rockwell Museum, Inc. based on original artwork by Norman Rockwell. The figurine features a multi-figure scene of five boys and a dog engaged in imaginative play on a makeshift ship constructed from wooden crates and planks. The ship is named Jolly Roger on an incised plaque at the front. The captain figure wears a red cloak and uses a telescope, while other children are depicted with an eye patch, a wooden toy knife, and manning a toy cannon. The figurine is mounted on a tiered walnut-finished wooden base. The underside of the porcelain base is printed with Special Edition Museum Piece, Norman Rockwells Playing Pirates, Figurine number 1,691, and a 1984 copyright for The Norman Rockwell Museum, Inc. It also features the circular Norman Rockwell Museum Seal of Authenticity and a blue foil sticker reading MADE IN JAPAN. The top surface of the porcelain base bears a printed signature of Norman Rockwell. One crate at the rear is marked TRES. This item is accompanied by a matching-numbered paper Certificate of Authenticity signed by Curator Marshall L. Stoltz, confirming it is part of a worldwide limited edition of 2,500.
