Seth Thomas Eight-Day Column Shelf Clock - Maker/Artist: Seth Thomas Origin: Plymouth Hollow, Connecticut Date: Circa 1850-1865 Period/Style: American Classical, Empire Materials: Mahogany veneer and wood case, brass movement, painted metal dial and decorated glass Form: Weight-driven eight-day time-and-strike shelf clock Description: An architectural Seth Thomas shelf clock with a broad cove-molded cornice, turned columns and two glazed doors within a mahogany-veneered case. The painted Roman-numeral dial has floral corner decoration and a central aperture exposing part of the brass movement. Below it, dark glass tablets carry gilt-colored heraldic and floral ornament. The interior retains an Eight Day Brass Clocks label naming Seth Thomas and Plymouth, Connecticut, together with two cast-iron weights, a pendulum and a coiled strike gong. Marks: Interior label: Eight Day Brass Clocks; Seth Thomas; Plymouth, Connecticut. Dimensions: 32.5 in. H, 19 in. W, 6 in. D.
