Classical Carved Mahogany Center Table - Origin: Probably American Date: 19th century Period/Style: Classical Materials: Carved mahogany and mahogany veneer with metal casters Form: Circular center table on an acanthus-carved pedestal and four paw-foot legs Description: Classical mahogany center table with a circular top above a shallow, flame-veneered apron. The pedestal is carved in successive bands of overlapping acanthus leaves, with raised veins and deeply undercut edges. Four boldly curved legs emerge from the central block, their upper surfaces and sides carved with sweeping foliate ornament. The legs terminate in large carved paw feet fitted with metal casters. A broad rectangular bearer joins the pedestal to the underside of the top. Dimensions: 29 in. H, 36 in. diameter.
