Anglo-Indian Carved Davenport Desk - Origin: India Date: 19th century Period/Style: Anglo-Indian Materials: Carved hardwood with brass drawer pulls and metal hardware Form: Davenport desk with sloping writing lid, fitted interior and side compartments Description: Anglo-Indian carved hardwood Davenport desk with a pierced foliate gallery above a hinged sloping writing lid. The fitted interior has two rows of small drawers above a storage well. Pierced side doors conceal four graduated drawers with recessed brass pulls on one side and a shelved cupboard on the other. Winged birds above smaller animals form the front supports, continuing into carved trestle feet. Dense floral and vine carving covers the friezes, side panels, kneehole back and pierced lower apron. Dimensions: 42 in. H, 38 in. W, 29 in. D.
