Polychrome & Gilt Eagle Crest Carved Bed - Origin: European Date: Probably late 19th century Period/Style: Renaissance Revival Materials: Carved and turned wood with polychrome paint and gilt decoration Form: Bed with headboard, footboard and side rails Description: European Renaissance Revival bed with elaborate polychrome and gilt decoration, probably late 19th century. A spread-winged eagle rises above a carved, quartered heraldic shield and geometric crest rail. The headboard panel depicts a domestic interior with figures gathered around a table and hearth, enclosed by scrolling painted borders and flanked by floral bouquets. Turned posts with spiral carving and rounded finials frame the headboard and lower footboard. Green-ground side rails and cross rails carry further floral decoration and gilt accents. Dimensions: 48 in. H. Interior mattress opening: 47 in. W, 76 in. L.
