Pair French Figural Dolphin Wall Sconces - Origin: France Date: Probably late 19th or early 20th century Period/Style: Louis XV taste / Rococo Revival Materials: Heavy cast brass with a gilt finish Form: Pair of figural wall candle sconces Description: Pair of French figural wall sconces in the Louis XV taste, probably late 19th or early 20th century, cast in heavy brass with a gilt finish. Each features a female figure seated above a scalloped shell supported by intertwined stylized dolphins. The figures hold shell-shaped vessels from which branching stems rise, carrying pointed leaves, flower heads and flared lily-form candle cups. Shaped rectangular backplates have stepped borders and rounded lower ends. Detailed casting articulates the figures' hair, shell ribs, dolphin scales and foliage. Dimensions: Each: 26 in. H, 14 in.
