German Rosewood and Gilt Bronze Clock - Origin: Germany Date: Circa 1890-1900 Period/Style: Historicism and Baroque Revival Maker: Unidentified Materials: Rosewood veneer, gilt bronze, brass, glass, steel, and fabric Form: Bracket-form mantel clock Description: A German bracket-form mantel clock in rosewood veneer with gilt-bronze mounts, its stepped architectural case surmounted by a central flame finial and four smaller corner finials. Applied floral garlands, figural caryatid terms, pierced corner mounts, and paw feet enrich the facade. The arched dial has a silvered Roman numeral chapter ring, gilt center, blued hands, and a subsidiary slow-fast regulator. Pierced side and rear frets are backed in fabric. The brass movement strikes on a coiled gong. Marks: Regulator dial marked ”MADE IN GERMANY.” No maker's mark observed on the movement. Dimensions: 17 in. H, 9.5 in. W, 7.5 in.
