Materials: Brass, cut glass, frosted glass, and electrical components Form: Solar lamp, converted to electricity Description: An American brass solar lamp by Dietz, Brother & Co., later converted to electricity. The marked circular font is raised on a slender cylindrical standard and stepped square base, with a lower gallery hung with faceted cut-glass prism drops. A later frosted glass shade of bulbous hurricane form has a flared scalloped rim and silvered floral sprig decoration. The lamp retains its period font and framework beneath the electrical socket conversion. Marks: Applied oval plaque stamped ”DIETZ, BROTHER & CO. / 132 WILLIAM ST. / NEW YORK.” Dimensions: 23 in. Several prisms have edge nicks and chips, and the drops hang at uneven heights. The shade has light scratches, residue, and wear to the silvered decoration. No obvious shade crack is apparent. The shade appears later. The lamp has been converted to electricity and illuminates, but the wiring has not been safety tested. Electrical inspection is recommended before use.
